    Prednisone jittery

Hello I just got diagnosed with Addison's a couple weeks ago and I am really having some issues. I am on 3.75 mg of prednisone a day, a pretty low dose, but I keep gettign jittery and very tense in the afternoon and by night time it will be outright anxiety. I tried 15 mg of hydrocortisone last week after being on prednisone for a week and a half and thats when the tingling and anxiety started so i figured I should stick with the prednisone but I still have this horrid tense feeling. I could really use some advice my endo doesn't seem to know whats going on. I have a lot of tingling with this and muscle twitches too. Hi Elley Couple of things to note;- Large spikes of steroids can make you feel strange. I am not outright tired but by the time this jittery feeling calms down i can be outright exhausted. Note that getting the dosage regime right may take some time to settle. Most people that take Pred take 2/3 of it on waking and 1/3 at around 5PM. It can take a month or so to level off.- You have however described what happens after the dose is depleted. (ie it lasts about 8 hours) If you were using HC you might even be on three doses per day 1/2, 1/3 and 1/6. You are trying to mimic the cortisol cycle in your blood. Anxiety and energy loss are in fact AI symptoms as your levels run down.- Also whether you take it after or before food affects the resultant cycle peaks. Around the 1st of May I had a moderate panic attack, which was the second of my life. When I went to the doctor the following day I thought I had figured out that acute cause relating to someone who was stalking me. I have a history being easily stressed and anxious at times. I now have a script for prednisone for my neck issues and am scared to death to get it filled b/c of the jitters it has caused me in the past, but I will iknow it is the prednisone if that happens as I've been pretty good since I went back on the zoloft a couple months ago. Prednisone will also cause weight gain and hair growth - it is a steroid. Also, Ventolin is albuterol which can cause jitters and an increased pulse rate Your asthma..doctor's rule of thumb is if I have to use my rescue inhaler more than 2 times in a week I need to be on a controller medication such as Advair. I had to take oral corticosteroids (Prednisone) throughout my pregnancy with my daughter, who is now a healthy 20 year old (will be 21 in July). You start and end by taking it in increasing and then decreasing doses. It works very well for inflammation but what most doctors often fail to tell patients is that steroids also negatively impact the immune system --- It is not uncommon for someone on these drugs to get a variety of things like the flu, colds, pneumonia, and a host of other diseases because their immune system is not working right. We had the puppy shower and I have been on 500 mgs of prednisone since Friday..not sleeping. With about 20 people here Husband made a loud comment that he was cutting off my beer that I wasn't drinking because I couldn't pull out a complete or full statement. Hubby and his sister did all cooking but People who really know me know that I am talk in half sentences any more...

My big question is how long until I get this stuff out of my system and get my body back to normal. I had to take it in the hospital twice for pneumonia due to breathing problems, I was in a coma, septic shock, a ventilator, pulmonary embolisms, and another round of pneumonia over a period of 2 months. Each time the side effects became more pronounced and serious. I feel slightly better & am hoping that it will go away as I am weaned off of it. I think those severe side effects are rare from what I have heard, but unfortunate for you. Anyone had or has a similar situation and any idea about time frames for feeling better, and swelling going down; strength returning; aching going away? I'm on 30 mg of prednisone (just tapered down 10 mg today) and I've been noticing that my hands are shaking a lot. I hate this jittery feeling I have all the time on it. Yes, its definatly a side effect that I have gotten. my hands shook something awful at 60mgs day, & I stayed shaky, physically & emotionally, for a long time. I like your wording, Judy- "always on the verge of screaming"- so true! Went to see my family doctor about it and he said it could somehow be caused by the swelling (edema) that was a result of the prednisone. Katie Age 25Prednisone 30 mg Lialda Remicade every 8 wks. Even with the abien cr, I cannot sleep longer than five hours. Another unpleasant side effect that prednisone has left me with...actually two...osteoporosis and abscesses in the gums. I would shake, feel tingling in my fingers and toes. It really ramps up your anxiety levels and when you are really anxious(think about before your going to give a speech), sometimes you shake! He sid that pressure could have been pushing on something. I get the shakes at times, and I also have periods of time when I feel like I'm about to bounce of the walls. I was shaking like a leaf when i was in the range of 40-80 mg of pred. I haven't had it since then, which was almost two years ago. This causes some anxiety (more like anxiety sypmtoms, rapid heart rate, dry mouth, agitation, that feelig in the pit of your stomach), and your body interprets these signs as being anxiety. The shaking calmed down alot once i got to 30, and now at 25 its better. Once I hit 10 mg, it feels like I can breathe again. I try to remind myself it is just the prednisone, and that helps. My hands don't shake, but OOOOO how I long for a good night's sleep. Prednisone causes some wild mood swings in me, and the term 'roid rage applies, although I'm getting outwardly violent.

En español l For a long time doctors dismissed forgetfulness and mental confusion as a normal part of aging. Midazolam (Versed) has particularly marked amnesic properties. But scientists now know that memory loss as you get older is by no means inevitable. Alternatives: Benzodiazepines should be prescribed only rarely in older adults, in my judgment, and then only for short periods of time. Indeed, the brain can grow new brain cells and reshape their connections throughout life. It takes older people much longer than younger people to flush these drugs out of their bodies, and the ensuing buildup puts older adults at higher risk for not just memory loss, but delirium, falls, fractures and motor vehicle accidents. Most people are familiar with at least some of the things that can impair memory, including alcohol and drug abuse, heavy cigarette smoking, head injuries, stroke, sleep deprivation, severe stress, vitamin B12 deficiency, and illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease and depression. If you take one of these meds for insomnia, mild anxiety or agitation, talk with your doctor or other health care professional about treating your condition with other types of drugs or nondrug treatments. But what many people don't realize is that many commonly prescribed drugs also can interfere with memory. Why they are prescribed: Benzodiazepines are used to treat a variety of anxiety disorders, agitation, delirium and muscle spasms, and to prevent seizures. If you have insomnia, for instance, melatonin might help. Because benzodiazepines have a sedative effect, they are sometimes used to treat insomnia and the anxiety that can accompany depression. Taken before bedtime in doses from 3 to 10 mg, melatonin can help to reestablish healthy sleep patterns. Examples: Alprazolam (Xanax), chlordiazepoxide (Librium), clonazepam (Klonopin), diazepam (Valium), flurazepam (Dalmane), lorazepam (Ativan), midazolam (Versed), quazepam (Doral), temazepam (Restoril) and triazolam (Halcion). Be sure to consult your health care professional before stopping or reducing the dosage of any benzodiazepine. Tips to stop pvcs Tips to avoid premature ventricular.
