    Does methotrexate work without plaquenil

Hydroxychloroquine is available as the brand-name drug Plaquenil. Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name version. Hydroxychloroquine may be used as part of a combination therapy.

Plaquinel was one of the earlier drugs I took for RA and it did not work. Methotrexate pills did not work either. My doctor switched me to Methotrexate injections before going to the bigger guns. It works along with antibotic theraphy. Plaquinel has side effects too, it is just a decision you need to make as it is your body. I was diagnosed with RA in march and have been on increasing dose of methotrexate. Yesterday my rheumatologist started me on hydroxychloroquine as well. Is anyone else on this combination and have you had any problems with it as I know hydroxychloroquine can cause eye sight problems. Thanks Plaquenil takes quite a long time to get to its peak effectiveness depending on what you read, anywhere from 3 months to a year. Unless you are having significant side effects, try to give it at least 6 months before you decide it doesn't work for you.

Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. It isn’t fully understood how this drug works to treat lupus erythematosus or rheumatoid arthritis. That means you may need to take it with other drugs. It treats malaria by killing the parasites that cause the disease.

Despite Plaquenil dosing recommendations, retinal toxicity. Plaquenil comes in 200 mg tablets, and many doctors just off-handedly put everyone on 200 mg twice a day. An ophthalmologist just has to establish a relatively stable HCQ level in the blood.
