    Stopping plaquenil before pregnancy

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

I have read about people stopping P & flaring up. Those who stopped it abruptly had real problems similar to what you are experiencing. If you really need to get off it, I would taper down slowly, very slowly. There is a similar posting on Healthunlocked, "Why oh why did u stop taking plaquenil." You may want to check it out. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Find patient medical information for Plaquenil Oral on WebMD including its uses, side effects and safety, interactions, pictures, warnings and user ratings.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

Hydroxychloroquine. Hydroxychloroquine is frequently used in RA as part of triple therapy in conjunction with methotrexate and sulfasalazine Singh et al. 2012. Much of the data regarding the safety of hydroxychloroquine in pregnancy comes from its use for malaria and connective tissue diseases, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus SLE. Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine. It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Though Plaquenil is generally regarded as safe during pregnancy, it is recommended that effective birth control is used throughout the course of Plaquenil treatment and for up to six months after treatment is stopped.
